A Hockey Sockey is built to last for seasons, as long as it stays out of the dryer. Here's how to wash your onesie, union suit or slipper skates so the fleece stays soft and the crest stays sharp.

The short version
Turn it inside out, wash it cold on a delicate cycle with mild detergent, and hang it to dry. Never put it in the dryer.
Step by step
- Pre-treat stains. Dab any spills (game-night nachos, we know) with a little water and mild detergent before washing.
- Turn it inside out. This protects the embroidered crest and stops the fleece from pilling on the outside.
- Use cold water. Hot water weakens the backing that holds the crest and patches in place.
- Choose the delicate or gentle cycle. Less agitation means less pilling.
- Use a mild detergent. Skip bleach and fabric softener, which flatten fleece over time.
- Hang it to dry. Over a drying rack or a hanger, away from a heater. Polar fleece dries quickly on its own.
Why no dryer?
High heat is the one thing that ruins a Hockey Sockey: it can shrink the fleece, curl the crest and loosen the stitching. A few hours on a rack is all it takes.
Slipper skates and koozie mitts
Spot-clean slipper skates with a damp cloth and mild soap, and let them air dry. Koozie mitts can go in a cold, gentle wash inside a laundry bag, then air dry.
